Buying Direct from the Manufacturer
Many companies buy flooring directly from the manufacturer in an effort to eliminate dealer markup. Although this usually leads to a lower unit cost for the materials, two things happen. First, you receive a lower level of service, which may require you to perform these functions internally.
Since traditional flooring contractors have always provided these services, most manufacturers are not set up to perform them efficiently. Second, many manufacturers actually add cost to compensate for
time spent providing material management services such as quantity estimates and shipping coordination. This can occur even with customers who make significant annual purchases.
There are many other factors that can lead
to paying more by purchasing direct. A nominal savings on unit cost can
quite often lead to much higher overall costs for your commercial
flooring. This includes additional cost for excessive quantities
of materials ordered and shipped, increased freight costs, higher

as to cover their service costs, dealers must add significant markup to your
